With The Punisher season two only days away, actress Deborah Ann Woll recently posted this:
Most likely the final appearance of me playing Karen Page will be in The Punisher Season 2. I miss her very much. Be sure to watch!! @jonnybernthal is amazing in it! So is everybody! Hope it gets to continue for a third season. 🤞 #Punisher #ThePunisher https://t.co/PqD4iuzXbd

Deborah Ann Woll has been portraying Karen Page since Daredevil season one in 2015 and since then has been in all three seasons of the show, as well as The Defenders, and The Punisher. Her character has been mentioned in the other Netflix Marvel shows and although this is very well the last time we see any of them in their current roles, it still is disappointing to see a tweet like that. Karen has been a complex character from the start and we’ve all watched her development and her story unfold before our eyes. If there is a soul in the Netflix arena or a miracle to be had, we’ll see Woll reprise her role.
In the meantime, here’s a small collection of Karen’s best moments:
Karen Page vs Wesley
Is there any scene more iconic than when Karen Page, in the first season of Daredevil; stared down Fisk’s right-hand man, James Wesley; and told him to shoot her. All because she was tired of hearing him talk? Wesley smugly thought that he had the upper hand, but he didn’t know who he was dealing with. Who Karen Page was. And when she shot Wesley dead, it solidified that this was not a damsel in distress kind of character, that she could hold her own and it was something we saw layout numerous times in the MCU.
Karen Page Confronting Frank Castle
Perhaps this is simply a result from my adoration of Woll’s and Jon Bernthal’s chemistry on screen, but Karen and Frank’s relationship started early in Daredevil season two. While she may have been running around in that hospital when The Punisher first went after Grotto, she quickly began sympathizing with him, not only because of what happened to his family, but what happened with hers. Karen running up to Frank at the hospital, where he was incarcerated; and shoving the picture of his family in his face to get his attention was the beginning of the ship we call #Kastle.
Karen Page and Dinah Madani
This scene could have been a little more Dinah than Karen, but the fact that Woll will only be in The Punisher season two for a split second means we won’t get these strong ladies on screen again. The dynamic between Amber Rose Revah and Woll made for a powerful, electric scene. I love watching the interrogation scene, with both staring each other down and while both are playing hardball and wanting to be adversaries, it ends with both simply just laying the cards on the table. Madani needs to find Frank Castle and Karen is there to protect him.
Karen Page vs Wilson Fisk
God, who else had chills watching this scene in Daredevil season three? Karen killed Wesley in season one and this has been something that has been brewing for a long time. It’s been a weight that Karen has been carrying on her shoulders for so long and in season three, we finally got her not only admitting to the killing to her friends, but to Wilson Fisk himself. Vincent D’Onofrio as Fisk is so imposing, so powerful, so larger than life, and so hellbent on getting revenge for the death of his friend. Karen Page walked into that room and did what so many would be too afraid to do; she looked Fisk in the eye and admitted that not only did she kill Wesley, but that she would have shot him more but “the clip ran out”. It’s such a powerful scene and to be a fly on the wall while the two were acting it out is a dream.
Of course, we need to give an honorable mention for the final scene of Daredevil scene three that warmed my heart. It’s a bit insane to think that this is the end, as we were all so fresh in the middle of their stories when it was snuffed out. IF this is truly the end, then we can only appreciate the memories, but stranger things have happened, and shows have been saved before by the power of the internet. So, #SaveDaredevil and watch The Punisher’s second season on Netflix January 18th!
