AAF Had Better Ratings Than The Rockets-Thunder Game

Football is popular in at any level. From Pop Warner to NFL, there are fans everywhere that love to watch a game full of action and unexpected plays. The Alliance of American Football (AAF) kicked off yesterday with two games playing from their league debuting on CBS. This brand new league did not only get positive reviews, but also had better rankings than a popular NBA matchup that was decided by a game winner.

According to CBSSports, ” Between regional action of the San Diego Fleet at the San Antonio Commanders, and the Atlanta Legends at the Orlando Apollos, Nielsen ratings say that both games averaged more than 2.9 million viewers for the 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. time slot”. In comparison, the NBA matchup averaged 2.5 million viewers in the same time slot. Now this is not a reason for saying one is better than the other, but for a new league to start off strong is great news. Luckily, the CEO of AAF has said that they do not view themselves as a direct competition of the NFL, which is a breath of fresh air, but if it can continue the momentum for the next three months (championship game is in April) then it could be seen as an alternative to the NFL.

The next matchup is on Sunday Feb. 10 with a 4 p.m. ET game between the Memphis Express and Birmingham Iron on CBS Sports Network, followed an 8 p.m. game on NFL Network between the Salt Lake Stallions and the Arizona Hotshots. Let us know how you feel about this league. Should it be a competitor to the NFL or stay as a alternative for football fans?
