Andrew Lincoln Reveals His Reason for Leaving ‘The Walking Dead’

Andrew Lincoln’s announced departure from the hit show The Walking Dead came as a shock to most fans. While there was always a chance that Rick may not make it to the end of the series and Carl may take up the mantle, that concept was quickly scraped the moment they killed off Chandler Riggs’s character. You had to have some member of the Grimes family leading the show for it to still be TWD, right?

Season 9 will be Andrew Lincoln’s last season and although we don’t know how the storyline will be without Rick Grimes, we do have some insight into Lincoln’s decision to leave The Walking Dead. According to his sit down with EW Radio, Lincoln has this to say, “I have two young children, and I live in a different country, and they become less portable as they get older. It was that simple. It was time for me to come home.”

Sometimes as we become immersed into a show or movie, we forget to remember that the actors portraying these characters are just human beings with lives and homes outside the realm of what we’re used to them existing in. It’s clear, though; that he has a very strong bond with the cast mates, both Norman Reedus and Jeffrey Dean Morgan both describing Lincoln as the “leader” of the cast, Morgan saying, “It’s going to be a different vibe, there’s no replacing him.”

As far as how Andrew Lincoln views his time on The Walking Dead, “I love this show. It means everything to me. I love the people who make this show.” We will certainly miss Lincoln and the foundation he has laid down for the show and for the cast members. The Walking Dead season nine premieres October 7th, 2018.
