The DC Universe’s original content is shaping up nicely. We’ve now learned that actress Brec Bassinger will be starring as Courtney Whitmore aka Stargirl. Bassinger is best known for her roles in All Night and School of Rock. Stargirl will be a new series on the streaming service, which follows Whitemore, who takes up the mantle of Stargirl due to her stepfather Pat Dungan, who was the original Stripesy. Stargirl has worked with the Justice Society, Justice League, Suicide Squad, and Young Justice.
Stargirl was created by Geoff Johns and Lee Moder. Stargirl was inspired by Johns’s late sister:
“There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl, and after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger,” said executive producer/writer Geoff Johns. “Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.”
The series will follow this high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life turned upside down, as she now struggles to adjust to a new school and making friends. Now that we have Bassinger, we can now work on imagining what the upcoming Stargirl series will look like. DC Universe is already planning out a lot of upcoming series, with Titans being the first to premiere on October 12th.
