Harley Quinn has been a well-loved character since her introduction in Batman: The Animated Series. We have gotten many different iterations of Harleen Quinzel. From the lover of the Clown Prince the Joker, to insane madwoman, and to a caring almost anti-hero, there’s many different spins you can have.

Now, in September, DC Black Label will be releasing a new series called Harleen, which is written and illustrated by Stjepan Šejić. Harleen is a twisted love story that will follow a young Dr. Harleen Quinzel searching to save Gotham from the madness that plagues the city. This path will ultimately lead her to The Joker, which will ten transform her into the villain we know as Harley Quinn.

Šejić descrived the three-part series:

“HARLEEN is a story of a flawed person who meant well, a doctor who fell in love with her patient. It is a story of her road to hell—paved with good intentions—and a smile that cost her her soul. More than anything it is a tale about good people falling. Falling in love, falling from grace, and falling apart.”

In this series, Dr. Quinzel will have discovered a cure for the madness in Gotham City. With all cures, she needs to know that it works. She will have to take drastic measures when the criminal justice and mental health establishments are against her. Harleen will then become face to face with the Joker, as she becomes drawn into his madness and insanity. We will witness her first steps into this long and winding journey that makes her the legendary super-villain in the reimagining of Harley and the Joker’s “twisted and tragic love affair”.

As a massive Harley Quinn fan, I will be checking this out. The series will begin monthly releases starting on September 25.
