Harrison Ford Tried To Get An Actor Fired From Star Wars

Admiral Ackbar was brought to life by master puppeteer and actor Tim Rose in the Star Wars movies (Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi). He has also played “Salacious Crumb” in Return of the Jedi, but his Star Wars career was almost cut short.

Who by? Well, Harrison Ford apparently. Rose tells, in an interview with YouTuber Jamie Stangroom; that during the seen where Han Solo is released from his carbonite prison and Leia kisses him, the costumed characters began chanting something that concerned Ford.

Apparently, the curtains were pulled back, revealing Jabba and his lackeys; who all started shouting “we saw you kissing!” over and over again.

Rose stated:

“Harrison went over to the director and said ‘Are these puppet characters going to laugh over my line? Because I don’t want to have to come back and do ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement)’.”

When director Richard Marquand asked what Rose what he thought of this take, Rose responded as Salacious Crumb:

“Eh, this Harrison guy… is he gonna talk over our laugh? ’cause it’s really putting me off.”

According to Rose, the microphone was still live – unbeknownst to him. The crew found is funny, but Ford didn’t. It was after that that Ford stated he wouldn’t return to set unless the person who made the comment was fired. According to Rose, he got away with not getting fired due to Ford not knowing what the costumed actor looked like and after that, Rose introduced himself as “the new guy” as he continued working.

Rose added, realizing that this isn’t probably the most flattery wait to portray Ford;

“I’m at great pains to say Harrison Ford is a great guy, I just happened to misread the sense of humor and do the wrong thing at the wrong time.”
