Yes, there is going to be a Barbie movie. A live-action Barbie movie. Warner Bros. and Mattel have joined together to bring the beloved and well-known toy to the big screen, bringing in the big guns with Hollywood star Margot Robbie as the title character. If you’re going to have a Barbie picture, it would make sense to bring one of the industry’s best to the forefront to help bring in audiences.
Toby Emmerich, who is the chairman of Warner Bros., stated:
“This project is a great start to our partnership with Ynon and Mattel Films. And Margot is the ideal producer and actress to bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences.”
Margot Robbie will not only star in the film, but also produce:
“Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery. Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president,” Robbie said. “I’m so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide. I can’t imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.”
Besides Barbie, Robbie will soon begin filming Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn); so it looks like we’ll have even more Margot Robbie content to look forward to in the near future.
