Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love what the upcoming Bumblebee movie is doing. Not only does the story simply look fantastic, but the style of the Transformers, as opposed to Michael Bay’s work; are just stunning. Some of the biggest complaints about the previous live-action movies were the looks of the autoboots and Decepticons – simply put that they hardly looked like what we recognized from old cartoons and comic books and at times, it was hard to tell anyone apart.
Travis Knight directs the new film, coming out with a new featurette about his upbringing with Transformers:
“I’m a child of the 80s. I grew up playing with the Transformers action figures and I grew up watching the animated series. Going back to my experience as a kid, Autobots were always cars, Decepticons were always aircraft.”
“Were simplifying, squaring things out like the toy, and it conjures up that G1 aesthetic,” Visual Effects Supervisor Jason Smith said, with Production Designer Sean Haworth adding “Every detail we could get off of the cartoon we applied to the characters.”
In the new video, you can see the nice new design of Optimus Prime, as well as memorable Autobot Cliffjumper. In these pictures, courtesy of Comicbooks.com; you’ll see the class character pointed out. In one scene, we can also see a pink Autobot that could likely be Arcee, who is most notably the most popular of any female Transformer.
