The L Word was like Showtime’s version of Sex and the City, but instead of the ladies pining over hot men in the city, The L Word broke grounds by being a show that focused on lesbian women and their lives and relationships. Ending in 2004, The L Word and Queer as Folk were just about the only shows to showcase same-sex relationships and both received praise for doing so. Now, The L Word has been ordered for a sequel which will consist of an eight-episode revival and I can’t wait to see this highly enjoyable series back on air.
Marja-Lewis Ryan will be the showrunner as original series creator Ilene Chaiken returns for the role of executive producer. Main characters and fan favorites Jennifer Beals (Bette), Katherine Moenning (Shane), and Leisha Hailey (Alice) will return in their original roles, as the show will also introduce new characters. Just as before, these characters will go through the trials and tribulations of love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks, and success in L.A. The L Word revival will also explore what has and hasn’t changed for the LGBTQ community. It’s rumored that other members of the original cast may also pop up.
There’s no release date yet, but are you excited for the revival of such an important television show in modern cinema?
A girl with too many fandoms to count.
