Sad news for fans (including myself) of the hit HBO series Silicon Valley, as its been reported that season six will be the final season. Creators and showrunners Mike Judge and Alec Berg broke the news earlier today via The Wrap
“Silicon Valley has been a career and life highlight for us. We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and Season 6 seems to be the fitting conclusion,We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew, and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.”
Casey Bloys who is the head of HBO’s programming admitted that once a series gets to a certain point they hand it over to the creators for a decision on when and how to end things.
“Generally, when we get to the fourth, fifth, sixth season of shows, we kind of put it to the creators and say ‘what do you think, where does this end, how do you want to do it,”
I can this being the case as with Game of Thrones it was decided around season six that the series would go two more years. Benioff and Weiss were given the option to have full season orders for both season seven and eight but they chose to shorten the seasons to finish telling their story.
TJ Miller who starred as Erlich Bachman for four seasons departed the show amidst reports he was unhappy on set and other issues the actor was facing at the time. TJ Miller was the main reason I started watching Silicon Valley and it absolutely sucked hearing that he was leaving. He was the glue holding the show together and perhaps with him gone the series just feels it cannot carry on. Mike Judge commented on Miller leaving saying
“There are a lot of different ways you can find out somebody doesn’t want to do the show anymore, And it’s not fun to work with someone who doesn’t want to be there, [especially when] they’re one of the main people and you’ve got however many crew members and extras and people who are [not paid as well] and they’re all showing up before 7 a.m., and then are just like, ‘Oh, OK, we’re not shooting today.’”
Are you a fan of Silicon Valley? What are your thoughts on the series coming to an end?
