Taika Waititi Attached to Flash Gordon Animated Film

Anything Taika Waititi touches is gold. So, there’s no doubt that he would be able to “crack” Flash Gordon in the form of an animated feature film. Fox/Disney has attached the Thor: Ragnarok director to this project. Previously, Flash Gordon had been in development. Kingsman’s Matthew Vaughn and Overlord director Julius Avery were both previously aligned with a Flash Gordon project.

Perhaps everyone felt it easier to adapt this iconic character into an animated film. If you will remember, the previous attempt was the 1980 film that starred Sam Jones and Max Von Sydow, whose soundtrack was provided by Freddie Mercury and Queen.

Flash Gordon’s origins date back to 1934 as a science-fiction comic strip. Originally created and drawn by Alex Raymond, it was done so to compete with Buck Rogers. If you remember, Seth MacFarlane’s movie Ted featured some major Flash Gordon fan-service, so the time might be right to try to revive this character. Plus, as I said earlier, Waititi can do no wrong.
