The gauntlet/infinity stones have been teased for a while within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and unfortunately, the titan Thanos completed his mission in Avengers: Infinity War with one snap, erasing half of the population of the universe. While the gauntlet seems almighty, there are some weaknesses to using it that co-writer Stephen McFeely pointed out in Infinity War’s home video’s commentary; speaking about the minimum level of physical mobility that is required to operate the gauntlet:

“As you can imagine, when you have a gauntlet that has nearly unlimited power, and every time you use it you can do what you want… we wanted to create small physical rules that would allow people to hang in a fight with him, so the idea that he had to, you know, close his fist to use a stone was the bare minimum that allowed us to have a fight.”

This is apparent especially when Iron Man, Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy are attempting to tug the gauntlet off his hand. The biggest struggle you’ll notice is preventing Thanos from making a fist:

“So that every choice they’re making, you’ll notice in that last minute of fighting, is to keep him from closing his fist. From Peter webbing it to the cape wrapping around it.”

Whether you blame Star-Lord for being distraught over just finding out the love of his life was dead or Thor for not going for the head, Thanos succeeded. Which, destroyed the gauntlet and it’s looking like it may not even be operational afterward. We’ll see how everything comes together in Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019, ad if the remaining survivors have what it takes to take down Thanos.
