When the decision is made to try to revitalize a character or a franchise, sometimes the way they do it is to possibly eliminate known staple characters. This is not to say that they would be eliminated forever, but in the beginning, for a fresh approach, it happens. That is the situation with the upcoming David Harbour led Hellboy reboot. In a recent interview with Collider, Hellboy producer Lloyd Levin confirmed that neither Hellboy regulars Abe Sapien or Liz Sherman would appear in the film.
That is a major change as the characters have been helping Big Red since the beginning of the comic series. They were important enough that they were included in both of Guillermo del Toro’s films as played by Doug Jones and Selma Blair, respectively. For the reboot, the characters have been ostensibly replaced with two of the newer characters from the Hellboy saga. BPRD agents Ben Daimio (Daniel Dae Kim) and Alice Monaghan (Sasha Lane). Daimio has the ability to transform into a jaguar-like monster, while Monaghan can communicate with the dead, which is probably handy when working with Hellboy.
